Following a 12 month project to improve its understanding and conformance of Environmental Legislation, and reduce its impact on the environment, Kalmar Limited has successfully completed assessment and has been recommended for certification to ISO14001 Environmental standard.
Mick Foskett co-ordinated the project along with Paul Churchill of Churchill Management Consultants Ltd. Assessment and certification was provided by Moody International Certification and completed on the 3rd March 2009.
Mick commented, “Understanding and ensuring compliance to over 250 legislative items formed a large part of the project, once we understood the legislation and how it applied to our operations we were then able to make changes that brought about improvements in the way we conduct our business and handle waste. In addition because we are now keeping a closer eye on consumables such as fuel and paper we are managing to save money as well as reduce our impact on the environment″.
Chris Booth, Managing Director of Kalmar Limited added, “Achieving the standard is just the beginning of an ongoing process. Kalmar is committed to supplying products and services to minimise environmental impact. Assessing our UK operations to the ISO14001 standard adds further to our ability to provide customers with products and services that are environmentally optimised″.
Kalmar’s focus on providing “greener″ products and services forms part of its Pro-Future initiative. Kalmar was the first company in the world to develop a low-emission all electric drive Rubber Tyre Gantry Crane (RTG), the E-One. In addition Kalmar is developing new hybrid technology drive systems like those available on its popular range of Straddle Carriers and further increasing the use of heavy capacity electric lift trucks available with the introduction of the new ECF50-90 range giving lifting capacities from 5000Kg – 9000Kg.
